Wood brings people and nature together
Environmental Education Centres are supposed to bring people and nature together. This link between man and nature – mediated by wood – also inspired
Assen's (NL) Environmental Education Centre. In looks alone, MM masterline glued laminated timber from Mayr-Melnhof Holz makes a statement in terms of environment, sustainability and innovative construction methods. Furthermore, the public building's ecological footprint was taken into account as early as the concept phase and kept as low as possible.

The Dutch community of Assen's Environmental Education Centre attempts to bring people and nature together in its own special way: This place of exchange and education bordering an English landscape park and pastures is neatly embedded in its surrounding landscape.
The Centre offers lots of space for offices and event rooms, but also features a restaurant and facilities housing the adjacent petting zoo. One of its more striking features is its solar observation tower which not only helps with naturally ventilating the exhibition rooms but also serves as the Educational Centre’s landmark. Solar thermal power, solar power and biomass have been integrated into the innovative timber complex as environmentally friendly sources of energy in order to keep its ecological footprint as small as possible.
