The sawing activities of the Mayr-Melnhof Holz group have been centred in Leoben for many decades. It is also the headquarters of the Mayr-Melnhof Holz Holding AG.
The Mayr-Melnhof Holz Leoben sawmill processes raw material – logs – exclusively from sustainably managed forests in Styria and the surrounding regions. In addition to spruce, some fir and larch are also cut here. An on-site biomass power plant produces the environmentally friendly energy needed for drying the sawn timber and sawmill by-products. The sawmill chips are processed on-site into high-quality pellets for domestic heating. A substantial volume of the sawn timber produced here is delivered to Mayr-Melnhof Holz's wood processing plants Mayr-Melnhof Holz Gaishorn and Mayr-Melnhof Holz Reuthe, both in Austria. Mayr-Melnhof Holz Leoben is PEFC (chain-of-custody) certified.
