Efficiency measure: Drying kiln replacement (2021/2022)

At Mayr-Melnhof Holz Reuthe, the existing drying kilns had been replaced by Mühlböck Type 1003 drying kilns. With their low specific thermal and electrical energy consumption, they represent the best technology currently available. Compared to drying kilns at the current state of technology, Type 1003 drying kiln sets from Mühlböck use 100 per cent of waste heat from post-drying for pre-drying.

This measure saves energy and 3,351 tons of CO2 per year compared to the previous situation.

This project had been partly funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

Efficiency measure: Air compressor replacement (2018)

At Mayr-Melnhof Holz Reuthe, the former Kaeser DSD 201 SFC air compressor had been replaced by an energy-efficient Kaeser DSD 205 SFC air compressor. Its waste heat is used to heat the halls and office spaces. Many innovative upgrades in terms of compressor block, compressor controls and drive motor contribute to significant energy savings.

This measure alone saves 123.4 tons of CO2 per year compared to the previous situation.

Efficiency measure: Drying kiln replacement (2018/ 2019)

At Mayr-Melnhof Holz Leoben, the existing old TK40-43 and 50-54 drying kilns had been replaced by Mühlböck Type 1003 drying kilns. With their low specific thermal and electrical energy consumption, they represent the best technology currently available. Compared to drying kilns at the current state of technology, Type 1003 drying kiln sets from Mühlböck use 100 per cent of waste heat from post-drying for pre-drying.

This measure saves energy and 4,551.60 tons of CO2 per year compared to the previous situation.

This project had been partly funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

Efficiency measure: Heat recovery belt dryer expansion (2017/2018)

The existing belt dryer at Mayr-Melnhof Holz Leoben had been rebuilt. Its energy efficiency increase is a result of adding a heat recovery system on top of the existing dryer. This highly efficient dryer utilises the energy contained in the post-drying system to heat the fresh air in pre-heating via a heat recovery system.

This measure saves energy and 7,152 tons of CO2 per year compared to the previous situation.

This project had been partly funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

Efficiency measure: Drying kiln replacement (2016/ 2017)

At Mayr-Melnhof Holz Leoben, the existing old TK6-16 drying kilns had been replaced by Mühlböck Type 1003 drying kilns. With their low specific thermal and electrical energy consumption, they represent the best technology currently available. Compared to drying kilns at the current state of technology, Type 1003 drying kiln sets from Mühlböck use 100 per cent of waste heat from post-drying for pre-drying.

This measure saves energy and 4,341 tons of CO2 per year compared to the previous situation.

This project had been partly funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
